Slotmill Company Information

Slotmill was founded in 2019 by Johan Öhman, former President and CEO of NetEnt, leading a team that had prior experience developing and marketing popular slot games. Initially founded in Stockholm, they launched with a B2B license from Curaçao, making it easier to get their games into Curaçao casinos. Today, they are headquartered in Malta with offices in Sweden and Willemstad, Curaçao.

The team at Slotmill holds well over 250 years combined industry experience which is a key contributing factor behind the success of the company which has led to numerous award nominations over the years.

When they started releasing slots in 2020, it didn’t take long for them to make an impact. Their first slot was the medieval-themed Templar Treasures, quickly followed up by the magical potion slot StarSpell which is still popular today. In 2021, they earned a Critical Gaming Supply License from the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA). This extended their operational reach even further, to MGA licensed casinos.

In the years since, they have consistently made EGR B2B award shortlists and, in 2025, were named Rising Star at the Starlet Awards hosted by 5 Star iGaming Media.

Did you know? Before founding Slotmill, Johan Öhman was the president and CEO of NetEnt for almost a decade!

Games Provided by Slotmill

According to Johan Öhman himself, Slotmill launched with the ambition to provide ten high-quality slot releases every year. While they averaged 6-8 releases in their first years, they hit that goal in 2024 with titles that included the dark and dramatic Ragnarok and Emberfall slots. They have 40+ games in total – a small library that packs a much bigger punch than some other providers of their size.

Those slots cover a lot of familiar ground – you’ll find a few classic slots alongside historical outings to medieval Europe, the Wild West, ancient Egypt, and the piratical high seas. Through Eternal Dusk and its sequel Eternal Dawn, they’re also building a Greek mythology series that’s reminiscent of Pragmatic Play’s godly slots.

Slotmill only makes slot games, so you won’t find live or table games here. However, their releases include cluster games, Scatter pay games, line or ways games, and slots featuring avalanche and fast-track features. Slotmill respects what they call “the power of feature-rich games” because they help break the mold and make the same old sights more exciting for players.

Slotmill Review

If it weren’t for that smaller library, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Slotmill are an industry veteran that has been on the scene for a decade or so. While that smaller library might work against other providers, Slotmill is very conservative when exploring themes.

Most themes have one, sometimes two, slots dedicated to them. Then, if a sequel comes along, it typically has a unique twist, as seen with Emperor’s Rise and Tyrant’s Fall. They do shy away from the casino aesthetic, so you’ll want a provider like 1spin4win if that’s more your style.

Creativity

A glance at Slotmill’s library shows that they clearly work with skilled artists when crafting slots. We think they’re at their best when dealing with dark and gritty fantasy/myth settings like in Ragnarok and Emberfall – coincidentally, they are also two of Slotmill’s biggest releases.

In particular, Ragnarok stands out from a lot of other Norse slots because it moves the action away from Vikings, for once. Instead, it delves deeper into the dark magic of Norse mythology, with glowing runestones and a setting inspired by their apocalyptic myth – a violent storm that was prophesied to end Norse civilization. It’s a far cry from the quirky ‘Vikings Go To’ slots from Yggdrasil Gaming, but Ragnarok’s depth makes sense when you remember that Slotmill was also founded as a Swedish slot provider.

It’s not all doom and gloom, however, as other slots apply a soft, cartoonish art style to make certain settings friendlier. Take Golden Scrolls as an example, the Egyptian god of death Anubis is rendered in a cutesy, rounded art style on the reels instead. A more recent example is Gods of Glory – the capricious, bickering Greek gods are reimagined as cheeky cartoon characters.
All in all, we think they ace creativity on two fronts. They don’t just have the talent to make high-quality, click-worthy slots, they also know when to learn into the dark, gritty settings and when to hold back with a lighter tone.

Game Features

In terms of game features, Slotmill has staked out several approaches that help keep action fresh with each new release. They also have a handy filter system on-site, so fans can scope out the different win systems and bonus features they offer. Not many providers have that kind of organization, but sticking to their old habits could become restrictive in the future.

Depending on which Slotmill slot you choose, you can win through lines, ways, clusters, or Scatter pays. They aren’t new or groundbreaking but, in our opinion, Slotmill achieves a suitable variety in winning methods despite having just 40-something slots. Each slot also has access to their fast track and Xtra-bet systems, if you want to skip to the action or up the ante.

Pros and Cons

  • Started out with industry-standard art and animation effects in their games.
  • Slots vary in win mechanics – ways, lines, clusters, etc.
  • Achieving worldwide distribution backed by an MGA license.
  • Doesn’t overuse themes – sequels/spinoffs often have interesting twists.
  • Meeting 10 slots per year goal as of 2024 and 2025.
  • Prefers fantastical themes – very few classic titles.

Winning Potential

Where return-to-player percentages are concerned, every release sits between 94%, 95%, and 96% RTP. The newest Slotmill releases come with two RTP variants, most often one in the 94.XX% range and a higher percentage at 96.XX%. This lets players shop around to find an RTP they enjoy. It allows players to build consistent expectations of this provider’s games but, if you prefer 97%, then you’re out of luck.

Their max wins are quite generous for such a small provider, and this just adds to their premium brand image. Most of their slots have a 7,500x to 10,000x max win, with a few 15,000x and 20,000x wins here and there.

The newly released Ragnarok 40k is named for its landmark 40,000x win, widely marketed as their highest paying slot. With the notable exception of StarSpell, most Slotmill games have medium, high, or very high volatility ratings. This tracks with their often-lucrative prize pots.

Slotmill Conclusion & Rating

In closing, Slotmill is a small provider of potent, fantastical slots that seem to hit the mark. We’d find it hard to argue that the team’s experience didn’t play a part in their early success – this is clearly a provider who knows all the tricks of the trade and hit the ground running as a result.

They have the creativity to present old settings in a new light, often by playing with tone or doing their homework on the mythology they’re adapting. Their game features are standard, more good than bad, but they’d lose points for not iterating on game formula in the future. Lastly, they’re quite generous with winning potential – lots of high max wins with variable RTPs.
