Hacksaw Gaming

Hacksaw Gaming consistently use one word to describe themselves – disruptive. This mobile-first studio challenges what they call “a conservative market”, hoping to stand out thanks to their library of unique cartoonish and horror-themed slots. It seems to be working, as this smaller casino game provider grows year-over-year with new releases and an expanding development platform that other studios rely on. Let’s take a look at everything there is to know about Hacksaw Gaming.

Hacksaw Gaming Company Information

Hacksaw Gaming was founded in 2018, making it young but far from the youngest provider we’ve reviewed. When they first formed, they actually targeted the digital scratchcards market. However, it quickly became clear that the future of the company would be found in the creative and mechanical opportunities only found with online slots. The result was their first ever slot, Stick ‘Em, released in 2019. They finished that year with their first ever SiGMA award, Instant Win of the Year, for their pre-existing scratchcard collection.

Since then, they’ve built a capable slot library led by fan favorites like Wanted Dead or a Wild, Le Bandit, and the Chaos Crew series. Alongside their slot offerings, they also created their own development platform called OpenRGS, which they now share to paying clients. Using this, Hacksaw supports other providers with a distribution network that spans 35+ regulated markets with in-house testing and a dozen gaming licenses.

Did you know? We’ve already reviewed one of Hacksaw’s OpenRGS clients – Bullshark Games!

Free Spin Offers for Hacksaw Gaming

Hacksaw Gaming haven’t got the same footprint as larger providers like Pragmatic Play, so they’ve yet to attract free spin offers at our covered casinos. They still make an appearance at quite a few of them, where normal play and other casino bonuses may be applicable. Games Provided by Hacksaw Gaming

Since they pivoted toward slot development in 2019, Hacksaw have made more than 250+ games. Slots are the backbone of their game development efforts, but 60+ of those games are their scratchcards and instant win games, which they still make to this day.

That slot library is deceptively small – just over 120 slots that span many different themes, most with unique premises and art styles. They range from the cutesy cartoonish Le series (Le Bandit, Le Pharoah, Le Viking, Le Zeus) to gritty Norse epics like Stormforged or Rise of Ymir. We particularly like how they interpret the ancient Egypt genre through a horror lens, which is uncommon among other providers. This is best exemplified by games like Hand of Anubis, Cursed Crypt, and Temple of Torment. Pirates and Mayans get this horror treatment too.

If gritty horror slots aren’t your style, there are still plenty of slots with anime and rubber hose art styles. We’d also recommend checking out some of their earliest slots (Stick ‘Em, Om Nom, and Cubes) to appreciate how this resourceful studio kept things simple. They didn’t get overly ambitious and instead made delightfully minimalistic slots until they could gather the artistic resources for their modern games.

News from Hacksaw Gaming 2025

With Hacksaw Gaming going strong, they make headlines regularly. Big events are posted in the news section on their site, with roundups for every month of the year. They started 2025 making several deals with LiveScore Group and Daznbet, widening their European market penetration.

They did this again with Veikkaus, debuting in the Finnish slot market, while also welcoming a new client to OpenRGS – Kitsune Gaming. This year also saw them launch Spinman, which is exclusively available with Hacksaw’s key partners, including Rant Casino. In June, their efforts paid off when they took home a trophy from the SBC Europe Awards 2025, for Medium Studio of the Year. They also went public on Sweden’s Nasdaq Stockholm market, raising over 300€ million at IPO.

Hacksaw Gaming Review

Hacksaw is creating distinct, great-looking slots backed by their OpenRGS platform that now spans multiple continents. If there’s a downside, it’s that many of their latest slots have same-y bonus arrangements. Many slots use one or two minor features (expanding Wilds, Multipliers) and then a Free Spins mode that has two or three tiers depending on how many Scatters landed.

The fact they’re now publicly traded also comes with mostly upsides. Joining titans like Playtech and Evolution on the market gives them access to more funds and spreads their name further. That said, in the long term, appeasing investors could result less risk taking, which is often the first step in creating truly new and bold experiences.

  • A robust and creative collection of both cartoonish and gritty slot games
  • Supporting multiple other providers through their wide-reaching OpenRGS platform
  • Strong license portfolio targeted at Europe with South American and US expansions
  • Publicly traded, raising funds from interested investors
  • Their slot game features fall into a clearly identifiable formula

Creativity

If it wasn’t clear, we are quite impressed with the creativity shown in Hacksaw Gaming’s slot portfolio. Unlike most providers, they barely have any classic or traditional slots. Instead, each one has a distinct theme and, when they cover well-trodden ground, they make an effort to spin it in a way others tend not to. So far, this has manifested through historical/mythological slots that go hard on the grittiness and horror visuals. When so many Egyptian and Mayan slots take place in ancient tombs, this novel approach makes a lot of sense.

We think there’s enough theme variety to keep every kind of player entertained. What’s stark is their evolution from simple slots like Wanted Dead or a Wild to their most recent cowboy slot, Bullets and Bounty, which relies on constant on-screen animated effects with beautifully rendered moving characters. Their other latest releases also look great and have introduced new crime and anime themes to their catalog. We think they’re on the right path.

Game Features

Hacksaw Gaming likes to layer their bonuses, and they don’t like crowding their slots with too much going on. We mentioned a formula – it’s typically several base game features that then get superpowered for Free Spins. Then there are multiple Free Spin modes depending on if you get three, four, or five Scatters. The more Scatters, the larger Multipliers or spontaneous Wilds you can expect. As a formula, it works just fine. Not every slot follows it rigidly, but enough that it’s a pattern, and most players won’t have a problem with that.

They’ve introduced a few mechanics but many of them seem experimental and don’t often carry forward to future releases. The exceptions, and our favorite mechanics, are RotoGrid and DuelReels. RotoGrid rotates the playing field and realigns the paylines, potentially making more wins. DuelReels pits two characters (phoenixes, cowboys) against one another on a reel. Each character has a Multiplier and it’s totally random who wins. A 2x could beat a 10x and vice versa. It’s a great example of using a game feature to tell a story and make the game even more creative.

Winning Potential

Most of Hacksaw Gaming’s slots have a very high volatility, and this justifies win potentials that you’d find from larger providers. Their hit slots range from 10,000x (Le Bandit, Ultimate Slot of America) to 20,000x your stake (Le Zeus, Bullets and Bounty). That’s about what you’d expect from a studio of this caliber, though it’s made even more impressive that these big wins appear in a small library that has just over 100 slots. You often see those five-figure max wins attached to larger providers – take Pragmatic’s Sweet Bonanza as an example.

For RTP, you’ll find most of their games listed with 96% RTP figures. However, they do provide three lower RTP options at 94%, 92%, and 88%. All of this is quite typical for a provider of this size – we’d recommend finding the 96% versions when you play! To shop around for the best RTP, look for Hacksaw games at our best online casinos.

Hacksaw Gaming Conclusion & Rating

Hacksaw Gaming seems to be a mid-level provider taking its first steps into becoming a large studio. We say that because of their smaller library, but their footprint is much larger than their slot output thanks to OpenRGS and their strong licensing reach. The games themselves are great visually with some standout, enjoyable mechanics, while their slots’ win potentials are passable. Our final rating is 4.5 stars.
